Dye Replacements

SO As you read on my other page I loathe anything that has food dye in it. Yes there are the obvious things, jellybeans, Twizzlers, well any candy really. It is the non yellow and colored things that really get me. Kraft cheese even the mozzarella has dye, Hungry Jack Pancake mix, has yellow dye! It is insane if you start to pay attention to it. So many other countries have BANNED dye in their foods, why are we not on board with this?

OK not to go off on this again.. I will start to make a list of things that have dye and what you can use to replace them. Now are all of these perfect? NO Are they totally 100% healthy? Nope.. but with 2 kids and a schedule that has us out of the house like 3-5 nights a week.. it works :) Please add you own replacements and I will put them on the page :)

  • REMOVE- Frozen eggos and breakfast foods REPLACE- Make your own and keep in the fridge to reheat over the week.
  • REMOVE- Poptarts and breakfast bars ( for the most part) REPLACE- Make your own granola bars. I have no good replacement for poptarts, they are garbage. Sorry Husband I know you like them.
  • REMOVE  Chewable vitamins REPLACE- Some Disney ones are dye free. We are on the Phineaas and Ferb ones right now. The ones that look like they have little sugar crystals on them HAVE DYE.  I have found the Walmart brand also is dye free.

This is just a start!!! It is in so much, things I never thought about like tooth paste and cold meds for kids.
Some things that have it that I can not just have a replacement for, well because I dont want my kids to have it :)

  • orange and yellow pop/ soda
  • Pizza rolls
  • Boxed meals like hamburger helper
  • Boxed rice meals
  • Cheese flavored anything in a box. Dinners, rice, mashed potatoes, etc
  • Cereal. So many have dye and not ones you would think. Check the labels. many cereals label it at Tartrazine. fancy name for yellow dye.
  • Boxed cookies and crackers. More have it then not. check the labels.
  • Cake and brownie mix. YES BROWNIE mix.
Here is a great link that goes through many products that have dye.
